Responsibilities & Requirements
Common responsibilities of the GI RN (including, not limited to): assisting physicians with endoscopic procedures, knowledge of vast amount of endo equipment, reprocessing endoscopes, specimen collection & labeling, EPIC usage for charting, pre/post care of GI patients, pushing beds & carts, lifting/positioning of patients…
Procedures commonly performed within Endo unit (including, not limited to): EGD, Colonoscopy, ERCP, EUS, PEG placement, Enteroscopy, & Capsule endoscopy
Nursing experience of at least 2 years or more in an area of peri-op/procedural, critical care, or medical-surgical required to work in specialty area of endoscopy.
- FT 36 Hours per week (0.9 FTE)
- FOUR nine-hour shifts M-F (0630-1600 or 0730-1700, mix of both) (one rotating weekday off per week- So, your day off differs weekly)
- ONE weekend on-call every 4th-6th weekend (Fri 5p-7a, Sat & Sun 7a-7a, 24hrs both days) *Time and a half paid for weekend hours worked in addition to weekend & shift differential! (GI Staff LOVE this incentive :)
- ONE weeknight on-call per week (5p-7a), commonly the same night of the week
- TWO on-call holidays per year (7a-7a)
- Call pay is $7/hr when NOT working. When called-in, time and a half pay rate will apply, in addition to shift differentials/weekend rates (where applicable)
- Overstaffing can occur in this unit. 36 hours per week, not guaranteed. When cases are done for the day, staff goes home. However, OT is also common due to on-call responsibilities.
- You must reside within 30 minutes of KH campus to meet on-call requirement response time*
Responsibilities
- The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process in providing nursing care to patients in all settings in collaboration with other health care providers.
- The RN is accountable for his/her own professional development and practice within the scope of care defined by law.
- Utilizing organizational resources, the RN acts as a patient advocate for the delivery of safe care including delegation of care and participation in performance and practice improvement activities.
- The delivery of nursing care within the Kettering Health Network reflects the missions, vision, values, and philosophies, of the organization and nursing departments
Qualifications
Applicants Must Have:
- Licensed in the state of Ohio as a Registered Nurse
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (NLN, ACEN, or CCNE) if they are a new graduate nurse.
- Bachelor of Science in nursing preferred (must be completed within 5 years of hire).
- A nurse who is returning to the acute care setting after five or more years may be required to provide evidence of successful completion of a refresher course.
- BLS certification
- ACLS, NRP, PALS as determined by unit scope of practice
Preferred Qualifications

On call required: must reside within 30 minutes of KH Main Campus to meet on call requirement response time.
