Soin Medical Center

  • Soin Medical Center has been serving residents of Greene, Western Clark, Eastern Montgomery, and Miami counties since 2012.
  • Conveniently located off I-675 in Beavercreek. 
  • Provides a variety of health care services and is home to 4 accredited Centers of Excellence including hernia and robotic surgery. 
  • Soin is currently licensed for 125 beds which will increase after the expansion completion in the Fall of this year.
  • In 2020, Soin received an “A” from the Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog, ranking among the safest hospitals in the United States.

Responsibilities & Requirements

The technician has a working comprehension of the technical and procedural aspects of laboratory tests. The technician maintains awareness and complies with regulatory requirements, safety regulations and ethical standards of practice. The technician correlates laboratory tests to disease processes and understands basic physiology recognizing appropriate test selection and abnormal test results. Under Medical Director supervision performs chemical, microbiologic, immunologic hematologic, and immunohematologic laboratory procedures that require limited independent judgment which he/she has been deemed competent to perform. May review work of lab assistants and students. Performs waived, moderately complex, and highly complex testing as defined by CLIA. Authorized to perform procedures in all areas trained as documented in the employee records. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities: 

  •  Performs accurate testing, recognizing abnormal or unusual results.
  • Reports timely results accurately, in writing, verbally, by fax or computer.
  • Documents appropriately.
  • Notifies appropriate person as necessary.
  •  Performs and records instrument checks, and quality control.
  • Performs routine equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Identifies QC issues and initiates proper corrective action.
  • Follows instruction for analyzer operation and reagent preparation. Documents and notifies lab leadership appropriately. 
  • Demonstrates current knowledge of computer functions and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Actively engages in laboratory communications and staff meetings. 
  • Properly prepares samples for testing, including proper labeling, specimen preservation and transport and safe handling techniques. 
  • Demonstrates and understands the appropriate handling and reporting of proficiency samples. 
  • Notifies appropriate care giver by telephone of critical results and corrected results and documents notifications in accordance to policy. 
  • Organizes and sets priorities to complete assignments in a timely manner. Able to multitask.
  • Assists in training of new employees and students. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform testing with accuracy appropriate to the sections in which they work. 
  • Knowledge of standardization and quality control and basic troubleshooting. 
  • Understanding of safety requirements and able to follow policy and procedures. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, hospital personnel and physicians

 

Job Qualifications: 

  • An associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university in Medical Laboratory Science or a related science including 60 semester hours of academic credit including 6 semester hours of chemistry and 6semester hours of biology or graduation from a military medical laboratory specialist program.
  • MLT (ASCP) Eligible
